BEST COMMUNITY GATHERING PLACE: Washington Park, Albany

A great place to stop and smell the tulips, take a walk, watch a play, play a game of volleyball, train capoeira, hunt some Pokémon, or walk your dog. It’s also home to some great festivals.

BEST HIKING TRAIL: Indian Ladder Trail, Thacher State Park

After a hiker was seriously injured by falling rocks last year, the state closed the trail and removed loose rocks from the adjacent cliff. It’s open again (though it’d be understandable if you now feel a little skittish about visiting).

The Albany County Rail Trail is definitely worth a try. It runs from South Pearl St. in Albany to Voorheesville, with plenty of places to peel off along the way—like the Royal Meadery in Delmar (just an idea).

It’s been freakin’ hot this summer. We hope you’ve made it out to eastern RensCo at least a few times to swim.
