Tonight: Refugee Voices, A Symposium

Opera Saratoga presents a symposium on the contemporary immigrant and refugee experience, inspired by their summer production of The Consul. Capital Region residents who emigrated from all over the world will share their stories to shed light on the difference between the experience of immigrants versus those who are specifically refugees, and Albany’s role as a Sanctuary City. Speakers will include Rifat Filkins from Pakistan, Francis Sengabo from Rwanda, Muthana Alkhazraji from Iraq, Ali Amjadi from Sudan, and Lily Htoo from Mammary, via Thailand. Presented in partnership with Refugee and Immigrant Support Services of Emmaus (RISSE) and the Social Responsibilities Council of Albany UU. The forum will be moderated by Seth Leech of Whiteman Osterman & Hanna, whose practices immigration law, including family-based immigration and asylum. The event is free but you are encouraged to register online ahead of the event.
