In this three-part project (documentary film, performance and essay) conceived and directed by Maryam DeWitt, the stories of black womyn are written and performed by black womyn “without the revision of their colonizers.” This evening will feature a live performance in which performers will explore six different issues concerning the black womyn’s self-esteem, such as beauty standards, sexuality and identity, hair, complexion and self-acceptance. A piece of art that inspired the artist during the research phase of the project will accompany the performance as a visual representation of each story.
