Let’s talk about porn, baby. Tonight at EMPAC, University of Toronto researcher Patrick Keilty will answer questions like: How does the multibillion-dollar pornography industry design for desire? What can our understanding of desire add to our understanding of how these systems operate? In his study on the impact that their design and information systems have on desire and sexuality, Keilty is focused on the what draws a viewer’s attention and dominates their time on site. Sophisticated technology companies develop interfaces, algorithms, data-mining and analytics software–responsible for strategizing a porn websites organization and content, turning out large profits and essentially regulating our sexual desire.
