The Alt Readers’ Poll 2017
Yes, here is the shameless plug of the week. Your response to our first Readers’ Poll has been overwhelming. We have the cover for the issue in our hands–it is gorgeous and designed by a one Ira Marcks. We’ve started counting votes the old-fashioned way and we have a long way to go–but we’re seeing just how passionate you are about all the Capital Region has to offer. Another reason to get excited? National chains aren’t winning. So watch for our first Readers’ Poll on September 6th. In the meantime keep voting–you have until August 31 to fill out our online poll or to deliver your physical ballots.

Troy Night Out
It’s tonight. Affogatos at Superior Merchandise Co., a dog bar at Henry Loves Betty, brunch at Bradley’s Tavern, poster printing at Troy Cloth & Paper, and more. I won’t make it to all the spots tonight, let alone complete a treasure hunt, but I do have an affinity for TNO—mainly because it makes the city seem so bustling. Not that Troy can’t be bustling on other nights, too! But TNO allows for especially good people-watching at outside venues, if you can grab a seat.

This weekend’s festival is my light at the end of the tunnel. It’s gonna be two days of music and art celebrating Black musicians and artists from all around. I’m incredibly excited to see Sza in person, I may or may not have been dreaming about it. Plus there’s the soulful rock n’ roller Gary Clark Jr., Sampha, pop-funk’s NAO, the incredible Macy Gray and a bit of politically charged punk from BLXPLTN.
