At this point in time, LGBTQ+ pride marches might be more important than ever. Especially after last week’s national healthcare disaster (the move to defund Planned Parenthood is a blow to the LGBTQ+ community), queer people continue to be neglected and discriminated against in an age where that should be universally unacceptable. However, this Saturday, Schenectady Pride will be valiantly resisting on the hippest stretch in the city, Jay Street, as they host their annual pride festival. Beginning with a Planned Parenthood Mohawk Hudson solidarity rally, the day’s activities will culminate in the form of a marketplace featuring local vendors and non-profit groups. Their event description also intriguingly promises Pride’s “usual over-the-top pride ambiance.” Events like these are vital.
