Tonight at the Sanctuary for Indy Media: The Nile Project

The Nile Project

Sanctuary for Independent Media, Troy, Friday, 4/21, 7 PM

There’s an old joke that puns off of the statement, “the Nile is a river in Egypt.” In addition to not being particularly funny, the statement is incomplete. The Nile is also a river in Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and Eritrea. Musicians from the very different countries and cultures along the Nile came together a few years ago to form The Nile Project, a 12-piece musical collective that draws on the diverse strength of these varied African cultures. The Boston Globe wrote, “Watching the Nile Project in action . . . one marveled continually at this remarkable voice, that effusive instrumental display, and overall the happy ease with which these individuals formed a united front.” In addition to the 7 PM concert, members of The Nile Project will also lead a workshop at the Sanctuary for Independent Media on “Civic Engagement and the Management of Water Resources” from 3-5 PM, and host a community potluck dinner from 5 to 6:30 PM.
