A free, multipart, thought-provoking event is taking place at The Sanctuary for Independent Media today (Monday) in Troy. Kicking off the event at 4:30 PM is a media workshop about how to safeguard sources in high-stakes or traumatic situations. The Q&A will be hosted by the acclaimed documentarian, Sonia Kennebeck.
From 6-7 PM there will be an exhibit of work by photographer Meredith Davenport, featuring her award-winning series Theater of War and the new 8,817 Goodbyes. A Middle Eastern-style potluck dinner will also take place during the exhibit courtesy of WMHT.
Finally, Kennebeck’s simultaneously insightful, yet infuriating documentary film National Bird (pictured) will be screened at 7 PM. This examines the ethics behind the use of drones, and the high-clearance whistleblowers who expose foul play. The Washington Post praised National Bird as “artful, profoundly unsettling . . . Kennebeck may be a newcomer to feature filmmaking, but her grasp of the material is accomplished.”
